Round 1: Fly Racing ATV Supercross at Daytona International Speedway

Story and Photos by Kevin Krout

On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the Fly Racing ATV Supercross Series came back to Daytona for the second time. This time around, they get to enjoy the newly upgraded Daytona International Speedway, as it was the venue for the ATV SX.

In the first Pro-Am heat race, fourth place went to last year’s winner, John Natalie, who, at the age of 40, was also the oldest racer in the field. Joel Hetrick took the win, followed by David Haagsma and Nick Gennusa.

During the second Pro-Am heat race, Chad Wienen became the winner who would transfer to the main event. Second place was Thomas Brown, and then Josh Upperman followed behind in third.

Jeffrey Rastrelli, who finished 16th overall last year, ended up winning the last-chance qualifier and transferring to the main event.

John Natalie started the main-event race by absconding with the holeshot, but he ended up finishing in fourth. Wienen got first place overall, followed by Jeffrey Rastrelli. Thomas Brown ended up on the podium in Gatorade Victory Lane by finishing third.
