Haaker and Webb Bring EnduroCross Battle to Boise

The competition at the front of the 2015 GEICO AMA EnduroCross pack has never been more intense. And the lucky fans packing the Ford Idaho Center near Boise, Idaho, this weekend will see an epic battle as Cody Webb and Colton Haaker fight for every possible point in the unpredictable, action-packed extreme indoor off-road race.

The KTM-mounted Webb is riding strong. In fact, he won every time he was on the track at the last round in Everett, Washington. That performance gave him a not-so-soft 11-point cushion over Husqvarna’s Haaker, who has been the closest to Webb all season, beating him and winning straight up in two races and coming in second on three occasions. Only EnduroCross’ iron man, Mike Brown, has as many wins, and Webb, Haaker and Brown are the only racers to win in 2015.

Haaker’s best bet to close the gap in Idaho is to grab every point available. That means winning the hot-lap bonus point and the main event. To scoop the bonus, he has to finish second or better in his heat race and then put down the fastest one-lap sprint he can for the point and top gate pick in the main. He’s done it before. However, as unpredictable as EnduroCross is and as challenging as the Idaho track can be, nothing is certain.

Webb needs to keep doing what he’s doing to take home the championship: go fast, ride smooth, and win. Even though his season hasn’t been perfect, and he’s been straight-up caught by Haaker’s late-race charges at times, he’s riding with the number-one plate for a reason.

You only have to look down the points list to see how stacked this series really is. And don’t think the rest of the regular EnduroCross crew will be backing off so Webb and Haaker can race in peace. Fourth-place rider Kyle Redmond just won a big event in Australia on his factory Beta, topping extreme enduro star Graham Jarvis and an impressive list of entries. West Coast Hare Scrambles Champion Cory Graffunder sits in fifth place; he is a constant podium threat and another rider who could shake up the points battles if he has a great race.

The bottom line is, nothing is as exciting and unpredictable as EnduroCross. Especially when a championship is on the line!

The GEICO EnduroCross Series points standings heading into the Idaho round are as follows: 1. Cody Webb (168); 2. Colton Haaker (157); 3. Mike Brown (130); 4. Kyle Redmond (106); 5. Cory Graffunder (101); 6. Max Gerston (98); 7. Ty Tremaine (90); 8. Taylor Robert (86); 9. Nick Thompson (78); 10. Kevin Rookstool (71).
